Did you know there is a difference between speech and language? As speech-language pathologists we define them two different ways. It is important for you to know the difference, in order to understand your child’s diagnosis and plan treatment! So, what is Speech?
Speech is how we say sounds and words. Speech includes articulation (how we make speech sounds using mouth, lips and tongue), voice (how we use our vocal cords and breathing to make sound) and fluency (the rhythm of our speech).
In our clinic, we address all areas of speech! We may treat articulation, voice or fluency. We can help if someone is not saying sounds clearly or not using sounds at all, has a hoarse or raspy voice, or is repeating sounds, repeating words or pausing when speaking.
