What is Language?

Writer's picture: Lauren AprileLauren Aprile

So now we know what speech is, What is Language?

Language refers to the words we use, how we use them to share ideas and get what we want. Having trouble understanding what others say is a receptive language disorder. Having problems sharing our thoughts, ideas, and feelings is an expressive language disorder.

Language includes; what words mean, how to make new words, how to put words together, and what we should say at different times.

A child with a language disorder may have difficulty naming objects, asking questions, following directions, answering questions, putting words into sentences, pointing to objects and pictures.
